A Passionist Legacy
While several Passionist groups have been to WYD in the
past, this is the first one where many have made the effort
to Encounter one another as a Passionist Pilgrim Group.
There is some uncertainty about this, and a number of questions
have arisen about the benefit of it. Like many of our
other initiatives, we can expect great blessings to flow from
this Encounter with the Holy Spirit. We know we will gain
much from the Pilgrimage to WYD.
WHAT WILL OUR LEGACY BE?
What will the Legacy of WYD be? The Legacy of WYD
just won’t happen. It needs to be planned for, it needs to be
open to change as we engage more with young people, and it
needs to have a sense of being ongoing. As these young
people (16-25) join the group (26-35) and then grow beyond
that into adult family lives (35+), we have to see this time as
a great opportunity.
For the Passionists, some questions we need to ask in
the coming months are:
• What legacy are we hoping for from our investment in
WYD?
• Who will we engage to help us create this legacy?
• What resources can we put in place to make this happen?
SOME ISSUES FOR THE PASSIONISTS
We have made the step to make WYD a major thrust for
the Congregation for the years 2006-2008 by way of financial
resourcing and personnel. We are calling our young people
and Passionists to an Encounter that will lead us into WYD
and beyond.
Some of the questions the Passionist Groups are asked
to explore with their Young People before WYD08 are:
• What is the Legacy of WYD08 that we would like to see
happening in our Province and Local Ministries with
Young People after WYD08?
• How might we prepare for this?
• Who are the people who should be invited to give
shape to these dreams?
